TOY DRIVE BENEFITS DISADVANTAGED AND DISABLED CHILDREN

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez Hosts Celebration to Help

The Children and Youth Life Foundation

(MIAMI, December 10, 2010) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez is hosting a holiday celebration and toy drive to benefit disadvantaged and disabled children of The Children and Youth Life Foundation. The celebration takes place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2010, at the Stephen P. Clark Center Lobby located at 111 NW 1^st Street, in Downtown Miami.

“We have planned a very special holiday celebration for these deserving children and their families,” said Mayor Alvarez. “Christmas is just days away and I can think of no better present during the holiday season than putting a smile on a child’s face.”

The event features animals from Zoo Miami, Billy the Marlin and the Marlins Mermaids, and Burnie from the Miami HEAT. Happy Meals and drinks will be distributed by Ronald McDonald courtesy of McDonald’s.

VISUALS: Zoo Miami animals, Miami HEAT and Florida Marlins mascot and cheerleaders, and Ronald McDonald. Additionally, we will have several The Children and Youth Life Foundation recipients (children and their families) who have agreed to be interviewed about their hardships and experiences.

Toy Drive sponsors include Baptist Health Systems, Florida Marlins, Miami Heat, Zoo Miami, Wal Mart USA, The Miami Children’s Chorus, The Christmas Palace, The VBC, New York Life Insurance, Miami-Dade County Police and The Marine Corps Foundation.
